History time: Dota2 and LoL have been bitter-sweet rivals for years now but who came first? According to wikipedia, Defense of the Ancients, better known as the original/first Dota, came out first. Though the game was far from the play style that Dota2 and LoL share today. People that helped create the original Dota game came together to later create LoL. Dota2 followed in LoL's footsteps by releasing a sequel with a similar play style.

tl;dr version: Dota was made first but was totally different from what people are used to (dota2). People from Dota1 helped make LoL and the style brushed off on the Dota1 sequel, Dota2.

Even shorter version for the ADD kids - Dota inspired LoL, LoL inspired Dota2. Weird, right? Cool.
